OVERVIEW:
The
CPR program blends both important informational FACTS and an unusual PHILOSOPHY
toward teaching the role of sexuality in the lives of young people. Here is a
summary of our philosophy:
CPR is committed to REDUCING
SEXUAL ACTIVITY AMONG TEENAGERS,
thereby reducing the risk of teenage pregnancy, STDs, and other negative
consequences. The core message of both the middle school and high
school curriculum is that abstinence is the healthiest choice to avoid
negative consequences of premarital sexual activity. Students are encouraged
to
consider the physical, mental, emotional and social aspects of human sexuality
and the significant freedoms and benefits associated with choosing premarital
abstinence. Current and accurate facts regarding the risks of sexually
transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy are provided to students in
an age-appropriate, non-threatening environment. The
CPR curriculum provides young people with practical strategies for goal-setting,
decision-making, maintaining self-control, planning for their dating life,
setting safe limits for physical affection, and resisting peer pressure.
Teams of CPR
certified instructors communicate documented information through the use
of videos, demonstrations, and games; actively involving students in the
learning process. CPR strongly believes that parents should be
the primary educators in the area of sex education's (See "ATTN:
PARENTS")
This page provides considerable curriculum detail for our middle- and high school
programs.

CPR TOPICS OVERVIEW
HIGH SCHOOL
"Choosing Healthy Lives"
CPR's most recent curriculum development is a unit of study
for high school application called "Choosing Healthy Lives". The
program includes lesson plans suitable for 9th - 12th grade students,
reinforcing and expanding the concepts taught in the "Building
Healthy Futures" middle school curriculum. At
the high school level, students are actively evaluating values
about sexuality. The course is designed to provide a framework
for this
evaluation, providing the high school student is in the
process of evaluating his or her values about
sexuality.
This course leads the
student to a better understanding of the complexity of this issue, while
stressing the "whole-person" importance
of good self-esteem and respect for oneself and others.
SUMMARY: The 5-day "Choosing Healthy Lives" high school curriculum is focused on sexuality as a whole-person issue. Through
briefly reviewing possible personal consequences of sexual intimacy,
then addressing the benefits of premarital abstinence in all areas of life
and some
characteristics
of healthy relationships, students are given practical guidance
and encouraged to develop a strategy for choosing and implementing an abstinence
goal.
THEME: Premarital abstinence is
a realistic and rewarding sexual choice for today's teens and contributes
to the
health of relationships
and society.
