Attention Parents
CPR strongly believes that parents
MUST be the primary source of effective sex education for their child.
Therefore, the CPR program woroks best when
parents, CPR staff, and school administrators are in close cooperation,
reinforcing the teen’s understanding and commitment to an abstinence
decision. We are committed to providing as much support as possible in
this vital task:
- Parents at each local
school where CPR is taught are invited to a parent information night
prior
to CPR’s arrival at their child’s
school. This meeting provides an opportunity for questions and answers,
viewing of videos, and parent outline and handouts for the specific classroom
instruction.
- CPR homework
assignments require parent participation. A study published in Family
Planning Perspectives found that those abstinence programs
that include homework assignments requiring parent participation
greatly enhance the likelihood that students will postpone sexual involvement.
- The
CPR program has developed a parents-of-teens workshop entitled, “Parenting
